BlogChain # 6: Blockchain and the Future of Marketing
Marketing adjusted to the internet, and needs to do the same with blockchain and Web3
Came across this tweet the other day:
Chris has a couple of really interesting points in his thread:
The development of blockchain mirrors the development of the internet. We're in the very early stages right now.
Our current approach is to simply use blockchain to solve existing problems rather than fully creating new products that exist and take advantage of how blockchains work and are for web3 and the metaverse
Combine that with this tweet:
Marketing through the web has grown into a billion dollar industry. Drawing clicks, views, and comments has evolved from cold calls to AI-assisted targeted ads. Much like this, the marketing of the future will take place on the blockchain.
Our current approach to marketing on crypto hasn't changed from web based marketing. Social media, traditional media, etc. are used to "shill" nfts. We still haven't made that jump, taking advantage of the way blockchain works to develop a new form of marketing.
This is the future. The first company that can do this - create a framework similar to Google Ads and establish a baseline for crypto advertising will be the crypto billion dollar business outside of exchanges and custody.
How is it going to happen? Absolutely no idea. But, I'm intensely curious and want to find out. The traditional marketing principles of attention hasn't changed from offline to web, just the methods. The next step will be to take those same principles and try and achieve them taking advantage of blockchain's protocol.
